Project Summary
In October 2024, O’Brien Bros Ltd. partnered with BC Hydro to support a critical 12-hour planned outage impacting transmission lines 1L210, 1L211, and 1L225—serving approximately 14,000 customers across multiple communities. Our team was responsible for pre-outage civil preparation, including the construction of access track roads and equipment pads, as well as on-site support during the outage event.
Challenges & Solutions
This high-impact project was executed in mountainous terrain under challenging weather conditions. Despite the complexities, O’Brien Bros successfully completed all preparatory and support work within a tight timeline. Our ability to mobilize quickly and work efficiently under pressure was key to the outage’s success. We ensured all operations were carried out in full compliance with BC Hydro standards and safety protocols.
Outcome
The upgrades carried out during the outage will enhance BC Hydro’s system reliability and service quality. O’Brien Bros is proud to have played a vital role in this effort, supporting both technical goals and community needs.
A special commendation was given to our Site Foreperson, Stephen Dyck, whose leadership and coordination were instrumental in the smooth execution of this complex operation.
